Fall is almost here, and writers are arriving on campus at the University of Iowa. The Writing University website at the University of Iowa is a comprehensive source of news, events, resources and projects covering all creative writing activities. Explore our website to discover all that we have to offer:

NEWS AND INFO: On this website you will find news from all the creative writing programs on campus, as well as a directory of important information for each program including contact information, fast facts and departmental history.

READINGS: We stream and record every reading at Live from Prairie Lights, so you don't need to worry about missing a favorite author, and you can always listen again. These recordings are held in an extensive archive at the University of Iowa Main Library, where you can also find the Peter Nazareth archive, the International Writing Program archive and more creative writing talks and events documenting our writing history.

INTERVIEWS: In addition to the readings, we conduct an interview series with students and alumni from the creative programs called the 5Q Interviews. This year the 5Q Interviews highlight the 50th Anniversary of the University of Iowa Press. Past interviews have introduced readers to students and residents from the International Writing Program, the Nonfiction Writing Program, the Spanish Writing Program, the Translation Workshop, the Playwrights Workshop, the Iowa Writers' Workshop and the Undergraduate Writing Major.

LITCITY TOURS: Want to explore the town? Our LitCity Project maps all of the places in Iowa City where famous writers lived, worked and socialized. Visitors can guide themselves around town in literary style using maps of Iowa City that highlight a variety of unique locations: where historic readings took place, where authors wrote and lived, as well as the legendary taverns and haunts where writers gathered to argue and discuss literature. We highlight our favorite locations through the LitCity Lore series on our website and on Instagram!

CRAFT PODCAST: Learn more about the craft of writing through our Eleventh Hour podcast, which presents TED-style craft talks from renowned writers at the Iowa Summer Writing Festival. We regularly release a tailored craft talk from the series, focusing on a wide range of topics such as Transforming Life into WritingHumor WritingThe Music of Language and so many more.

COMMUNITY RESOURCES: Iowa City is an active community of writers and artists, with a multitude of creative writing resources for the entire community. On almost any day of the week, you can find writing groups, community workshops, letterpress co-op classes, creative writing events, and more happening around every corner. Such resources include the Free Generative Writing WorkshopIC Press Co-op, Public Space One (PS1), Iowa City Poetry Slam and the Iowa Writers House, all part of a growing list of opportunities in our town.
