Who Understands the Hope of Being Loved

TIM P., IOWA

Inspired by Jimmy Santiago Baca’s “Who Understands Me but Me”

Chosen, Loved, Created unique

Yet unplanned, unwanted, for a time they didn’t speak
They broke up, made up, “Let’s give it a go”
But what chance was there, both their fathers a no-show

As the wheel went round, they found themselves broken
A pattern was set, too many angry words spoken

She would leave, and one felt neglected
Am I to believe that I was rejected?
Dad was left empty, without much to impart
To encourage or play, didn’t know where to start

Chosen, Loved, Redeemed by the Lord

A spark was ignited to share and study the Word
Finding community in band, with music to be heard
Then a new song was sung, and love was uncovered
A purpose and partner, was gladly discovered
Five little fingers, five little toes
Five precious treasures, how the family grows

Yet the wheel went round, they found themselves broken
A pattern was set, too many words went unspoken

She would leave, and one felt neglected
Am I to believe that I was rejected?
Dad was left empty, torn up and thrown away
Children discouraged, had to find their own way

Chosen, Loved, Forgiven, Second Chances

A spark was ignited to share and study the Word
Finding community in choir, with music to be heard

The wheel continues round, leaving behind those who are broken
But having found hope and love, there’s a word to be spoken.
