Registration has opened for the Examined Life Conference at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine! In its eleventh year, the conference continues its exploration of the connections between the writing, humanities, and arts of medicine.  Conference dates are October 12-14, 2017.

Our featured presenters are physician and poet Raphael Campo, Egyptian physician and author Ghada Al-Absi, and memoirist Mike Scalise. 

This year’s offerings include:

  • The Telling Itself: Managing the Narrative Structures of Illness
    with instructor Katherine Standefer, Independent/The University of Arizona.
  • A Whole New Doctor: Guiding Today’s Students into Tomorrow’s Leaders
    featuring instructors Margaret Cary, MD, The Cary Group Global and Jack Penner, Georgetown University School of Medicine
  • Telling the Tale: A Workshop for Prose Writers
    Carol Scott-Conner, University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine
