Iowa Writers' Workshop Professor Elizabeth Willis is a finalist for the 2016 Pultizer Prize for Poetry. Willis was nominated for her collection, Alive: New and Selected Poems. 

In their citation, the prize jury wrote that Alive is "a book worthy of its title," in which "the poet calls readers to look deep within themselves and regard anew the struggle to live."

Alive was published in April, 2015, by NYRB Classics, and selected poems have been published in The New YorkerA Public SpaceHarper's Magazine, and The Iowa Review.
