The Human Body Series is a monthly reading series that features poets from Iowa City and across the United States. Human Body is designed to provide a forum where all who enjoy contemporary poetry can hear the work of emerging and established poets in an intimate setting. All readings are open to the public.

The next reading will take place this Saturday, October 4, 2014 - 8:00pm, at 402 Fairchild Street in Iowa City. Featured poets include Lisa Wells, Sara Wainscott and Emily Wilson.

Human Body was founded in September 2014 to address the gap left by the conclusion of two beloved Iowa City reading series, Strange Cage and the Antibody Series. Human Body readings are curated to bring together poets who compliment and extend each other’s work.

The series kickoff, held on September 6th, featured Iowa City poets Brett DeFries and Elizabeth Pusack and the Des Moines poet Blueberry Morningsnow, whose first book, Whale in the Woods, was published by Rescue Press in 2012. Upcoming readings will feature local poets including Emily Wilson, whose most recent book, Micrographia, was published in 2009 by University of Iowa Press, and Lisa Wells, and visiting poets Trisha Low whose first book, The Compleat Purge, was published in 2013 by Kenning Editions, and Sara Wainscott.

The Human Body Series is curated by Sophia Dahlin and Davy Knittle. All readings are held on the first weekend of the month at 8 PM at 402 Fairchild Street in Iowa City. For details and a schedule of upcoming readings, please consult the Writing University’s calendar of events.
