The Writing University conducts is a series of interviews (the "5Q Interviews": five questions to all) with writers while they are in Iowa City participating in the International Writing Program's fall residency. We sit down with authors to ask about their work, their process and their descriptions of home.

Today we are talking with Yuriy Serebryanskiy Юрий Серебрянский  is a fiction writer and journalist from Kazakhstan.

1. Do you have a plan or project in mind for your time at the residency?

I have a plan to finish my novel. That's impossible to find better conditions for this.

2. What does your daily practice look like for your writing? Do you have a certain time when you write? Any specific routine?

Nights! For a finalizing. And I prefer to do my routine at public places. A coffee places.

3. What are you currently reading right now? Are you reading for research or pleasure?

I'm reading Christopher's Vogler “The writer's journey”. Without any specific reasons. Never had a super hero's in my writing, and never will. I could only read “Nine stories” for a pleasure, because I already steal everything I need from this.

4. What is something the readers and writers of Iowa City should know about you and your work?

If you could see me asking some specific questions about shampoo ingredients at the mall, that means I'm busy by writing a lot. Iowa City is beautiful. And not very big. I'm really enjoying and I'm ready for a new meetings and moments.

5. Tell us a bit about where you are from -- what are some favorite details you would like to share about your home?

Kazakhstan is a most wonderful during the fall. That's impossible to count all the colors of mountains in this period.
