UI faculty member John D'Agata was awarded with a $25,000 creative writing fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts this week.

D'Agata is the author of "Halls of Fame," a collection of essays, and the editor of "The Next American Essay," an anthology of innovative modern American nonfiction. A graduate of both the Iowa Writers' Workshop and the UI Nonfiction Writing Program, he presently teaches at the University of Iowa as a faculty member of the Nonfiction Writing Program.

D'Agata has been described as “a young writer of rare intelligence and artistry,” and "talented, insightful, and erudite." His forthcoming books include "The Lifespan of a Fact," a meditation on the Yucca Mountain Project in southwest Nevada, and two historical companions to "The Next American Essay."
