World Cinemas, Transnational Perspectives, an anthology co-edited by the University of Iowa's Cinema and Comparative Literature faculty Natasa Durovicova and Kathleen Newman, has been given a 2010 CHOICE Award for Outstanding Academic Title by Routledge Media, as well as the 2011 Best Edited Collection Award from The Society for Cinema and Media Studies (SCMS).

“This splendid book investigates the ways in which cinema operates internationally and interconnectedly. Durovicová and Newman argue that in the current era of globalization, studying particular national cinemas, particular genres, or narrowly focused theories in isolation no longer makes sense ... Many of these essays open new avenues of investigation that will keep scholars busy for a generation. Highly recommended.” – W. A. Vincent, Michigan State University, USA, CHOICE
