Writers' Workshop alumna Kate Christensen (MFA 1989) has been selected as the winner of the 2008 PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction, for her fourth novel, The Great Man.

Lola Lopes, University of Iowa interim provost, issued a statement on Monday, March 17, about the university's policies regarding the submission and publication of Master of Fine Arts theses:

The reading and discussion will be held at 3 p.m. as part of a special program, From Prairies to Cornfields. The March 16 session will feature Michelle Edwards reading from Chicken Man and Stinky Stern Forever, and Maribeth Boelts reading from selected titles.
