"In a Minute there is Time for a Hundred Indecisions"

Adrienne Ho, an MFA candidate in literary translation at the University of Iowa, translates the poems of Supulcia, the only extant female literary text from the Augustan period (1st century BCE) of ancient Rome. Ho writes, in her introduction to the piece, "I’m drawn to Sulpicia for entirely personal reasons. I like her. Or rather, I like who I imagine she might have been – a smart, coquettish, young literary brat."

Johnson County Reads: T.C. Boyle

Iowa Writers' Workshop alumnus T.C. Boyle's novel,The Tortilla Curtain, was selected for "One Community, One Book: All Johnson County Reads," an annual community-wide reading project. T.C. Boyle visited campus to promote the project's launch.The University of Iowa Center for Human Rights (UICHR) coordinates the project in conjunction with representatives from other sponsoring organizations from Johnson County and the UI. "The Tortilla Curtain" explores Topanga Canyon, home to two couples on a collision course.

Spanish Creative Writing MFA

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese offers coursework in Spanish-language creative writing. The Master of Fine Arts in Spanish Creative Writing will allow graduate students to develop their talent as writers in Spanish while working with established writers from the Spanish-speaking world.

The School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) offers a graduate-level program of professional and academic preparation for careers in libraries and information centers. Associate Professor James Elmborg manages the Virtual Writing University Archive, which began as a SLIS graduate student project. SLIS also provides technical and adminstrative support for the Virtual Writing University.
